Tsubaki is a Japanese skin and hair care brand. Tsubaki intended to introduce its skin and hair care line to the US market, and it engaged Objx Studio to develop a line of packaging concepts. When we first learnt about the Tsubaki line, we were intrigued by the ancient stories behind all the natural ingredients and their proven benefits to the users. Therefore, we have integrated the natural and old world charm theme into the packaging design.
We began with the structural packaging by designing a simple clam shell carton to house the product. The carton is made with recycled paper pulp which is cost effective without polluting the environment. The clam shell is then snap closed together and held tight by a belly band. The nature inspired graphics on the belly band are printed with vegetable based ink on 100% PCW papers that have not been treated with chlorine or bleach. To help reduce paper waste, we eliminated the instruction page that usually comes inside the packaging by printing the instruction on the under-side and inside of the belly band.
