The Insight Foot Care Scale is to help the elderly and obese who have diabetes spot the first signs of foot irregularities and help stop the rapid rise in amputations. The design goal for the Insight Foot Care Scale was to make it as inconspicuous as possible. The design is about as sleek and attractive as any bathroom scale you could wish for. The Insight Foot Care Scale makes a critical aspect of diabetes management a convenient part of a person’s daily routine. By combining an illuminated and magnified mirror system with a weight scale, the product checks the patients weight, reminds them to check their feet, and then shows the patient critical areas of the foot that are otherwise inaccessible.
The Insight Foot Care Scale received an IDSA IDEA 2009 award. It is named one of the fifteen designs to “Improve Your Life” by Business Week.
